Artist, author, and award-winning illustrator Kora Dandan Albano tells the story of Philippine life through the eyes of the nation’s youth. The Batang Pinoy collection features plates that beautifully portray the intersection between play, tradition, and Filipino culture.
The collection includes artworks that capture the beloved games of our childhood. These nostalgic images include: Aratilis, Gumamela Bubbles, Komiks in Sari Sari and Bahay
Bahayan. Aratilis refers to a childhood pastime that involves climbing up cotton candy berry trees or Mutingia calbura trees to enjoy the tangy sweet-ness of its bite-sized fruits. Gumamela Bubbles or Hibiscus bubbles utilize the sap from the Gumamela or Hibiscus flower to create floating foam, froth, and fantasy. Komiks in a Sari Sari Store recalls how as children, Filipinos would head to the neighborhood store or sari sari to buy their favorite comics. Bahay bahayan is a localized version of play house which involves the use of miniature palayoks or clay pots. It showcases elements of family life as they are first introduced to children at a young age.
