Ylang-ylang which is also spelled Ilang-Ilang literally means “flower of flowers” it comes from the word “ilang” which means wilderness. It is also called the “perfume tree” because perfume is distilled from its flowers. Its flowers are fragrant; and its scent could be captured even from a distance.
The Philippines used to be the world’s top exporter of ylang-ylang oil until it was overtaken by Madagascar. Ylang-ylang grows abundantly in Anao, Tarlac which is considered as the “Ylang-ylang capital of the Philippines”.
